Diablo Immortal x Spawn Collaboration Is Live Until 1 November

Spawn has crashed into Sanctuary. The Diablo Immortal x Spawn collaboration is live now, and it runs until 1 November, bringing Todd McFarlane’s Hellspawn, his demonic boss Malebolgia and a pile of themed rewards into Blizzard’s mobile and PC ARPG.

The event kicked off on 29 September after maintenance. Blizzard lists the end as 1 November at 2:59AM, so you’ve got roughly a month to grind through everything.

Hellspawn’s Bane Turns Survivors Bane Into a Spawn Run

The first of the two new gameplay events is Hellspawn’s Bane, a Spawn-themed take on the Survivors Bane challenge. You get Spawn’s toolkit for the run: vicious chains, a living cloak and necroplasmic energy, all used to carve through endless demon hordes.

There’s a twist partway through. Survive long enough and you get dragged down into Hell for a fight against a powerful foe, then sent back to the battlefield powered up by what you won. Blizzard is keeping the identity of that foe vague in its blog, which is a fun little hook.

Spawn’s whole deal is chains and a cape that kills things, and a horde-survival mode feels like the right place for that fantasy.

Malebolgia Waits in The Eighth Circle

The second event is The Eighth Circle, and it’s the big one. Malebolgia, the demon lord who created Spawn in the comics, shows up as a boss you take on with up to three other players.

Blizzard warns he’s got both brawn and sorcery, so expect large-scale attacks and summoned Hellspawn adds. Each day there are time goals for how fast you can kill him, with better rewards and points the higher you rank. Hit MVP four times cumulatively in a party of three or more and you unlock a unique cosmetic.

The PR also mentions a massive community challenge against Malebolgia, so this is designed as a group grind across the whole player base, not just a solo checklist.

Vengeance Marks, Necroplasmic Totem and the Rest of the Loot

Most of the rewards come through Hellspawn’s Vengeance. You earn Vengeance Marks by clearing weekly tasks and playing collaboration activities like Hellspawn’s Bane and The Eighth Circle, and your progress unlocks the goodies.

The list includes selectable Hellspawn Arsenal weapon skins, Hellspawn emotes, a Hellspawn avatar frame, Legendary Crests, Legendary and Set gear, and a 1-star Necroplasmic Totem Legendary Gem.

That gem is the interesting drop. Dealing damage wraps you in Necroplasm, boosting your damage for 6 seconds, while the Necroplasm tries to eat one periodic harmful effect on you every few seconds. If it consumes one, or you kill an enemy, it fires a Necroplasmic Bolt that explodes and Burns nearby enemies. You can only gain Necroplasm once every 20 seconds. A free Legendary Gem with built-in cleanse and damage is a solid reason to show up even if you don’t care about Spawn.

Hellspawn Guise Cloak and a Violator Familiar

On the cosmetic side, the Hellspawn Guise gives your hero the crimson cloak. And Violator, Malebolgia’s scheming clown-demon, joins as a familiar transmog.

His trait is Shapeshift, meaning he takes on unexpected forms while he follows you around Sanctuary. Violator has always been the loudmouth of the Spawn cast, so a familiar that keeps changing shape fits him.

Cinematic and BlizzCon Drawing Panel

Blizzard released a collaboration cinematic to mark the launch. If you missed it at BlizzCon, there’s also a recording of the live drawing panel where Todd McFarlane and a Diablo Immortal artist drew Diablo characters in the style of the Spawn universe.

The Diablo Immortal x Spawn event is live now and runs until 1 November. Log in, grab the gem and go punch a demon lord.
