CS2 Danger Zone Is Back Unofficially and You Can Play Right Now

Danger Zone, Counter-Strike’s battle royale from the CS:GO era, is playable in CS2 again after Epidemic, the creator behind the Epidemic.gg skin inspect servers, relaunched the beta of its CS2 Danger Zone mod on 30 September. The 28-change update rebuilds the shrinking zone and adds missile strikes, early-game redeploys and a squad invite system. The mod is free to play on Epidemic’s own community servers, with no involvement from Valve.

Servers are up in North America, Europe and Asia, with the Asia server based in Singapore, and you’ll need to subscribe to a 386.5 MB asset pack on the Steam Workshop before connecting. This isn’t the mod’s first outing. Epidemic’s patch notes run back to 31 January, and the beta was first declared live on 7 March, which makes this the biggest single update since.
What’s New in the 30 September Danger Zone Update
The update reaches into almost every part of a match. The main additions:
- Missile strikes with a visible flight path and impact effects, tied into the pacing of the zone.
- Redeploy, which lets you respawn during the early zones and drops late joiners into a running match. Lives are limited, and you get a warning on your last one.
- A zone rebuilt on a hex grid. Gas now spreads directionally toward players instead of closing a whole cell at once, with a warning sound as it approaches, a siren before a zone closes, and restored next-zone voice announcements.
- A squad invite system with a warmup lobby panel, plus pings only your squad can see and an outline glow on teammates.
- Voice chat that switches between squad and proximity depending on the phase of the match, with a short “last words” window at the spot where you die.
- Fists for every player, with custom punches and a disarm.
- Bump mines and breach charges that stick to moving objects, and a reworked drone that tracks tablets, frees itself when stuck and reacts to power outages.
- New spawn select, store, map, lobby and HUD screens, replacing the old tablet screens.
- A spectator mode through the !spectate command, and fixes for client crashes at the end of a match.
On the balance side, Epidemic adjusted zone payouts and item spawns, cut the minimum match duration and added more cells per wave. Squads come with a catch, though. A server needs a minimum number of players before squads are allowed, and below that count everyone plays solo and existing squads break up. On a quiet server, a duo can join together and still end up playing as two solos.
How to Play CS2 Danger Zone
- Subscribe to the Epidemic.gg Danger Zone Beta asset pack on the Steam Workshop. The mod’s site also links separate Workshop items for the three maps in rotation: Blacksite, Sirocco and Junglety.
- Open the server list on Epidemic.gg and hit Connect, or open the developer console in CS2 and type the server’s connect command.
- If CS2 throws an “Account not trusted” error, Epidemic’s fix is the “Use Steam VPN” option, which routes your connection through Valve’s Steam Datagram Relay network.
- Join before the second wave and the match is still in its respawn phase, so you drop straight in and can respawn if you die. Join after that and you spectate until the next round starts.
- To play Duos, press 5 to open your tablet, open the lobby menu, switch to Duos and invite your friend.
Nobody spawns with a gun. You start with your fists, so looting comes first, and red supply boxes can be punched open at reduced damage if you’d rather not announce yourself with gunfire. You can carry two primary weapons at once, auto snipers have been pulled from the loot pool, and the next map is decided by a vote at the end of every match.

CS2 Danger Zone Servers and Regions
The server list on Epidemic.gg updates live. These are the addresses listed at the time of the relaunch, each capped at 22 players:
| Region | Console command |
|---|---|
| Europe | connect 46.4.20.25:27015 |
| Europe | connect 46.4.20.27:27015 |
| Europe | connect 46.4.20.10:27015 |
| Europe (Non-Prime) | connect 46.4.20.11:27015 |
| North America | connect 131.153.169.164:27015 |
| Asia (Singapore) | connect 131.153.47.212:27015 |
The Non-Prime server is set aside for accounts without Prime status. Epidemic added the Singapore server in February as the mod’s Oceania option, and the list still has no server in Australia or New Zealand. For players in New Zealand, Singapore is the closest place to play Danger Zone, which is a far longer route than a server in Australia would be.
Is Danger Zone Officially Back in CS2?
No. Valve hasn’t brought Danger Zone back, and Epidemic.gg states it isn’t affiliated with Valve. Danger Zone launched in CS:GO on 6 December 2018, playable solo or in squads of two or three, and it didn’t make the move when Counter-Strike 2 replaced CS:GO in September 2023. Valve’s latest major update, Rush Hour on 22 September, added a new 3v3 Rush mode but nothing for Danger Zone.
Epidemic’s version has been taking shape in public all year. The first patch notes, dated 31 January, already let players carry two primaries and stack bump mines for extra momentum. Sirocco and end-of-match map voting arrived on 7 February, the first working drones came with the beta on 7 March, and a Teams mode followed on 29 March. Eight months of public patches make this a sturdier project than the “Danger Zone is back” framing suggests, although the six months between the March and September updates show how much rides on one small team’s pace.
In its launch post on X, Epidemic billed the beta as a faithful recreation of the original CS:GO mode and said there is “No Sponsor, no ADs” behind it. Epidemic has asked players to support the mod by telling friends and posting about it on Reddit, which self-promotion rules stop the team from doing itself, and says the website and its Discord are the mod’s only official channels.
Epidemic’s FAQ lists Trios, the third squad size the original mode offered, and tournaments featuring content creators as planned additions, but neither has a date yet.
