Civilization VII Reveals Arc of Tomorrow Update and Earthrise Expansion

Civilization VII just mapped out its future, and it runs all the way to the atom and beyond.

At PAX West over the weekend, 2K and Firaxis announced Arc of Tomorrow, a free major update landing in 2027. It adds the Atomic Age, a brand new fourth Age covering the 1950s to the 2050s, with its own gameplay, look and sound. For a game built around moving through Ages, bolting a modern one onto the end is a big deal.

There’s paid content too. The first expansion, Earthrise, was announced for later this year, and it’s all about humanity and space. It threads through the whole campaign and builds toward space agencies and missions across the solar system. So you’re not just charting the stars at the end game, you’re launching toward them.

Sooner than either of those, Update 1.5.0 arrives this month with a stack of quality of life fixes. Firaxis has been steadily patching Civ VII since launch, and a run of free updates plus a meaty expansion is exactly what a strategy game needs to keep players hooked for years.

One more turn just turned into a whole lot more turns. Update 1.5.0 is out this month, Earthrise lands later this year, and Arc of Tomorrow follows in 2027.
