Bymas Benched by Luminosity After Five Straight Losses

Aurimas “Bymas” Pipiras has been moved to Luminosity Gaming’s bench effective 25 August 2026, leaving the Counter-Strike 2 team with four active players less than two months into the organisation’s return to the game. Luminosity announced the change as effective immediately and thanked the Lithuanian rifler for his time with the team.

The move follows a 0-5 start across Luminosity’s first five tracked matches, including consecutive last-place finishes at XSE Pro League Guangzhou and the Esports World Cup. The organisation did not name Bymas’s replacement or state a specific reason for benching him.

Luminosity’s Winless Start Put the Roster Under Pressure

Luminosity’s opening run produced losses to Nemesis, Lynn Vision and Ninjas in Pyjamas at XSE Pro League Guangzhou before defeats against Spirit and GamerLegion at the Esports World Cup. The team won just one map across those five matches.

That stretch also coincided with a fall from 23rd to 39th in the Valve Regional Standings. With the standings tied to qualification opportunities such as the PGL Singapore Major later in 2026, the early losses have cost Luminosity ranking ground as well as tournament results.

Bymas had also been struggling individually before the change. His rating over a 27-map stretch stood at 0.87, compared with 0.97 across 105 maps during 2026. Over Luminosity’s most recent eight maps, he recorded a 0.84 rating, while Lucas “lux” Meneghini was the only member above 1.00 at 1.04.

Bymas Can Explore Offers After Moving to the Bench

In his own statement, Bymas said the move allows him to explore other opportunities.

“As of today, I have been moved to the bench and am allowed to explore my options.”

The 22-year-old thanked Luminosity and his teammates, describing the group as being like family to him. He also acknowledged that his recent official performances had fallen below the level he wanted and said he intends to work towards returning stronger with another project.

On his Discord server, Bymas said he had not known a benching was coming only a few days earlier, calling the situation “a good example of how esports works.”

How Luminosity Built Its New CS2 Lineup

Luminosity returned to professional Counter-Strike on 1 July 2026 after roughly seven years away from the game. The organisation rebuilt around players from Monte, adding Bymas, Aurélien “afro” Drapier and Oscar “AZUWU” Bell on free transfers, while Aleks “Rainwaker” Petrov joined through a buyout because his Monte contract had not yet expired.

Brazilian in-game leader Lucas “lux” Meneghini arrived from Legacy to complete the five and replace former Monte captain Jack “Gizmy” von Spreckelsen. The core had produced stronger results around the Cologne Major while playing under Gizmy, but Luminosity’s first two events with lux leading the roster ended at the bottom of the standings.
