Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement Delayed to 2027

Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement has slipped to 2027. Koji Igarashi announced it in a video posted to ArtPlay’s channel, and the wording is worth reading closely.
“We have made the decision to move the game’s release to the year 2027,” Igarashi says. “Currently, the development of the game has entered its final stages.”
Those two sentences sit oddly together, and that is the interesting part. A game in its final stages does not usually need another year.

What Igarashi said
“We understand that this is disappointing news for our fans, but everyone in the development team is working hard to make the game the best it can be,” he closes. “We sincerely appreciate your continued support.”
A Steam post went up alongside the video with fresh screenshots, and ArtPlay says gameplay footage is coming soon. That is the detail to hold onto: The Scarlet Engagement was announced at a State of Play in 2025 and we still have not seen it played.

Kickstarter backers have waited 11 years
This is a prequel to Ritual of the Night, the game that raised $5.5 million on Kickstarter in 2015 as an explicit spiritual successor to Castlevania. That history means a chunk of this audience has been waiting on Igarashi’s promises for over a decade, and has a longer memory than most.
If you ask us, a year of extra polish on a 2.5D Metroidvania is not the thing to be upset about. Nobody remembers whether Ritual of the Night hit its original date. Everybody remembers how rough it was at launch on Switch. Take the year.
