A Diablo Animated Series Is in the Works at Netflix

Blizzard’s push onto screens is getting bigger. At BlizzCon 2026, the company confirmed that an animated Diablo series is in development with Netflix, and framed it as just the start of a wider effort to bring its worlds to television and film. It landed as part of a segment Blizzard called “Storytelling Beyond Gaming,” with hints that other franchises could follow.

Diablo heads to Netflix

Details are thin. This is a confirmation that the project exists rather than a full reveal, so there is no cast, no story details and no release window yet. What we do know is that it is animated, set in the world of Diablo, and being made with Netflix. Blizzard says more will be shared in the future.

The timing is not a coincidence. Diablo is celebrating its 30th anniversary, and an animated series is a natural way to mark it. Diablo’s grim, gothic Sanctuary, all cathedrals, demons and fallen angels, is a strong fit for adult animation, and it sidesteps the biggest problem with adapting a game about a silent, customisable hero: animation can build its own cast and tell its own story without being tied to a specific player character.

Netflix has leaned hard into games

A Diablo cartoon does not come out of nowhere. Netflix has spent years turning games into prestige animation, from Castlevania and its spin-off Nocturne to the Arcane phenomenon built on League of Legends. Across the wider industry, game adaptations have gone from punchline to genre-defining hits, with Fallout and The Last of Us proving there is a huge audience for them. Blizzard, which has one of the deepest catalogues of worlds and characters in gaming, has been conspicuously absent from that wave until now.

A wider Blizzard screen push

The tease that other Blizzard worlds could get adaptations is the part worth watching. With Warcraft, StarCraft, Overwatch and Diablo all sitting in the vault, and StarCraft itself getting a brand-new game at the same show, Blizzard is clearly thinking about its franchises as more than just games. The 2016 Warcraft movie was a mixed result at best, but the animation route that worked so well for Arcane looks like a smarter fit for Blizzard’s dense, lore-heavy universes. For now, the Diablo series is a statement of intent as much as a single announcement.
