2XKO Lux Gameplay Trailer Reveals September 8 Release Before Development Ends

The 2XKO Lux gameplay trailer has given players their first full look at the League of Legends champion’s fighting style ahead of her September 8, 2026 release. Lux is the penultimate new champion planned for Riot Games’ tag fighter, with Samira also due before active development concludes at the end of the year.
The timing gives the reveal an unusual backdrop. Riot has already announced that active development on 2XKO will end in December, although the game itself is not scheduled to shut down. Online servers are planned to remain available beyond 2026, while offline play will be unaffected.
Lux Uses Projectiles To Control Different Parts of the Screen
Riot describes Lux as a shoto-inspired character with a relatively simple kit built around her light-based attacks. The official Lux gameplay trailer shows her fighting effectively from several ranges, with much of her toolkit centred on controlling space through different projectile patterns.
One attack works as a conventional horizontal projectile. The animation appears to recover quickly enough for Lux to respond when an opponent jumps over it, with the trailer immediately showing her following the projectile with an anti-air.
Another projectile travels forward above the stage before firing a beam down towards the ground once it reaches a set distance. Combining horizontal and downward pressure gives Lux ways to cover different approaches rather than relying on a single conventional fireball trajectory.
Several attacks also appear to have OTG properties, allowing Lux to hit opponents while they are off the ground. Alongside her ranged pressure, those tools could make her useful in tag sequences where a partner creates an opening and Lux extends the follow-up.
Lux Is Arriving During 2XKO’s Final Development Stretch
Lux’s September release comes after Riot announced that 2XKO active development will conclude at the end of 2026. The developer said that while many players tried the fighting game and an active community remains, not enough players continued playing to put 2XKO on a sustainable path.
That means Lux is not evidence of Riot reversing the decision. She and Samira are instead part of the remaining content Riot had already committed to delivering through the rest of 2026, alongside feature improvements and a final bug-fix patch planned for December.

The distinction between development ending and the game shutting down is important. Riot intends to keep 2XKO’s servers running after the final patch, meaning players will still be able to use Lux, Samira and the rest of the roster online after regular development stops. Riot has said it will give players advance notice if those server plans change.
2XKO first entered PC early access on October 7, 2025 before launching in full on January 20, 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Riot’s decision to end active development therefore arrived only months into the game’s full release cycle.
Riot Is Unlocking Champions and Refunding Earlier Purchases
The remaining development period is also changing how players access 2XKO’s content. Riot plans to unlock every champion and bundle most cosmetic items, while avatar and player-profile items will become unlockable using Credits as part of patch 1.3.1 in September.
Players will keep any content they already own. More unusually, Riot is refunding money spent in 2XKO on or before August 20, giving existing players their previous purchases back while still allowing them to retain the associated content.
Those changes put Lux’s arrival in a different position from a normal roster expansion. She is being released into a game that will remain playable, but whose pipeline of new champions, features and patches already has a defined endpoint at the end of 2026.
Community Reaction Mixes Praise for Lux With Frustration Over 2XKO’s Future
Reaction beneath Lux’s gameplay reveal has largely been shaped by that timing. Rather than focusing only on her moveset, many players responded with dark humour about receiving an impressive new character after already learning that active development is ending, while others described the trailer as reopening the disappointment they felt when Riot announced its decision.
Lux herself has received plenty of praise. Some viewers singled out the character’s presentation, visual effects and brighter art direction, with frustration coming from the feeling that one of 2XKO’s strongest-looking character reveals has arrived during its final months of active support.
There is still some optimism around the game continuing as a fighting-game community after development stops, and a smaller number of players expressed hope that stronger engagement could eventually change Riot’s plans. For now, the confirmed roadmap remains unchanged: Lux joins 2XKO on September 8, Samira is still to follow, and Riot plans to ship its final bug-fix patch in December before keeping the servers online beyond 2026.
