007 First Light Switch 2 Release Delayed to March 2027 for Performance Polish

007 First Light on Nintendo Switch 2 is now scheduled for March 2027 after IO Interactive delayed the port to give the team more time to improve its performance. The studio announced the change on 15 September and said an exact release date will be shared later.

We know many of you have been looking forward to experiencing Bond's reimagined origin story on Nintendo Switch 2, and we greatly appreciate your enthusiasm. To ensure we deliver the…
The delay pushes the Switch 2 edition beyond its previously expected 2026 window. IO Interactive’s statement specifically points to performance on Nintendo’s hardware as the reason for the extra development time.
Why 007 First Light Has Been Delayed on Switch 2
In the official 007 First Light announcement, IO Interactive said it wants the Switch 2 version to meet the level of quality players expect.
“This additional time will go toward polishing the Nintendo Switch 2 performance of the game.”
The developer also said it was pleased with the response to 007 First Light at gamescom. The same demo shown there is due to be playable again at Tokyo Game Show during the same week as the delay announcement.
IO Interactive has not given any more detail about which parts of the Switch 2 version still need work, so there is no confirmed breakdown of frame rate, resolution or other technical targets. For now, performance polish is the only reason the studio has publicly given for moving the release into 2027.
Players Are Split Over the Longer Wait
Replies to the announcement were mixed. Some players welcomed the decision and said they would rather wait for a better-performing version than see the Switch 2 port released before it is ready. Others were frustrated that the game will now miss its earlier 2026 expectations, with some saying their interest had faded because of the longer wait.
Physical distribution also came up repeatedly in the responses. Several commenters asked IO Interactive to release the complete game on a cartridge rather than using a Game-Key Card. The delay announcement itself does not confirm the final physical format, so those posts are requests from players rather than evidence of how the Switch 2 edition will be sold.
March 2027 Is the Only Release Window for Now
007 First Light is IO Interactive’s standalone reimagining of James Bond’s origin, following a younger Bond as he moves from the Royal Navy into MI6 and the 00 programme. The third-person action-adventure game combines stealth, combat and gadgets, with familiar characters including M, Q and Moneypenny.
For Switch 2 owners, March 2027 is now the only confirmed release window. IO Interactive has said the exact date will be announced later, making that the next major update to watch for as work continues on the port.
