PUBG Mobile World Cup 2026 Group Stage Starts 6 August With $3,025,000 on the Line

Thirty-two teams open the PUBG Mobile World Cup 2026 group stage at the Paris Expo Porte de Versailles on 6 August, in the first edition of the tournament staged outside Saudi Arabia. Twelve matches per group decide who reaches the Grand Finals directly, who gets a second life in the Survival Stage, and who flies home after four days. A $3,025,000 prize pool covers the eleven-day event, and for several organisations in the draw, the group stage doubles as a run at a far larger figure attached to the Esports World Cup itself.

As of 5 August the field is locked and the draw is published. Group A plays on 6 and 7 August, Group B follows on 8 and 9 August, and the Grand Finals run from 14 to 16 August.

How the Group Stage Splits the Field

The 32 teams are seeded into two groups of 16, and each group plays 12 matches across two consecutive days. The top five finishers in each group advance straight to the Grand Finals. Teams placing 6th through 13th drop into the Survival Stage. The bottom three in each group are eliminated outright.

That last clause is new. The 2025 edition ran 24 teams, sent its top eight directly to the Grand Finals, and pushed the remaining sixteen into the Survival Stage, meaning no team was eliminated at the group stage at all. Expanding the field to 32 changed that arithmetic. Six teams will be out of the tournament by the evening of 9 August, having played twelve matches for a group stage cheque and nothing else.

The Survival Stage runs on 11 and 12 August and is the harder gate of the two. Sixteen teams enter, six advance, and ten are eliminated. Passive point accumulation stops working when only the top six survive, which is why the second-chance bracket has historically produced the tournament’s tightest finishes.

Sixteen teams reach the Grand Finals from 14 to 16 August, playing a maximum of 18 matches across three days. The final day operates under the Smash Rule, PUBG Mobile esports’ match-point mechanic: the threshold is set at the leader’s total after match 12 plus 10 points, and the first team to cross that threshold and then win a match is crowned champion immediately.

Where the $3,025,000 Prize Pool Goes

The money is split across the three stages rather than concentrated at the top, with a separate individual award attached to the final.

The $1,148,000 group stage allocation is distributed across all 32 teams, so even the six sides knocked out on 9 August leave Paris with a payment. KRAFTON has not published the per-placement figures for any of the three stages, so how steeply that money curves between first and thirty-second is not yet public. For reference, the 2025 champions took $500,000 for first place before stage payments were added on top.

The $30 Million Race Running Underneath the Draw

The trophy is not the only thing being contested in these twelve matches. The Esports World Cup carries a $75 million total prize pool, of which $30 million is set aside for the Club Championship, the season-long standings that reward the best-performing organisation across all 25 events. The overall winner takes $7 million.

Points are awarded only for top-eight finishes, on a curve of 1,000 for first, 750 for second, 500 for third, 300 for fourth and 200 for fifth through eighth. Two top-eight results put a club on the board. A tournament win is required on top of that before a club is eligible to claim the Club Championship at all.

Here is where the group stage draw becomes a business story. As of the official Club Championship ranking after Week 4, the standings sit as follows.

Two of those five are in this field. All Gamers competes in Group A under the AG.AL banner, and Team Vitality appears in Group B, fielding the Bigetron by Vitality roster the French organisation acquired in 2025. Neither Team Falcons, Natus Vincere nor Virtus.pro appears in either group. The three clubs ahead of them cannot add points here, and All Gamers has still not won an event, which is the one criterion standing between them and Club Championship eligibility.

The precedent for what a PMWC title is worth in that column is exact. Yangon Galacticos won the 2025 edition and collected 1,000 Club Championship points for it, briefly placing the Burmese outsiders above Gaimin Gladiators, Fnatic, T1, Rex Regum Qeon and Natus Vincere in the standings.

The Full Group A and Group B Draw

Thirty-one of the 32 qualified through regional pathways, with reigning champions Yangon Galacticos receiving a direct invitation. Recent winners are scattered across both groups: 4Thrives Esports arrive off a PMGO 2026 Season 1 title, GodLike Esports qualified as BMPS 2026 champions, and Alpha7 Esports carry both the reigning PMGC 2025 crown and the distinction of winning the inaugural PUBG Mobile World Cup in 2024.

Yangon Galacticos Defend a Title They Nearly Did Not Reach

The defending champions arrive in Paris with a title and a cautionary tale attached to the same tournament. Yangon Galacticos were not part of any region’s Super League in 2025 and reached Riyadh through Myanmar’s open qualifiers.

Their 2025 run nearly ended twice. The Burmese side finished 11th in the group stage and was pushed into the Survival Stage, where it qualified in eighth and final position by a single point over INFLUENCE RAGE. Everything after that was a different team. Yangon Galacticos closed the Grand Finals on 157 points with 95 eliminations, the highest total of any of the sixteen finalists, and took $547,000 across all three stages.

The win was Myanmar’s first Esports World Cup title in any game and its largest esports prize. Thousands turned out in Taunggyi for a two-day homecoming that included a parade and rewards of land and cash for the roster. According to Esports Charts, Burmese-language broadcasts of the tournament peaked at 145,119 concurrent viewers, more than five times the previous record for the language, and PMWC 2025 as a whole reached almost 1.4 million peak viewers to become PUBG Mobile’s most-watched event in over four years.

The relevant detail for this week is what the format change does to that route. Eleventh place in a group still leads to the Survival Stage under the 2026 structure, so the same escape remains open. What has closed is the free pass at the bottom. A team finishing 14th or lower in either group this year does not get a Survival Stage at all, and in 2025 no group position carried that penalty.

When to Watch From New Zealand

Every match day starts at 13:00 CEST in Paris and runs six matches at 50-minute intervals. New Zealand sits on NZST in August, twelve hours ahead of UTC and ten ahead of Paris, which puts the entire group stage in the overnight window.

For NZ viewers picking one session rather than all four, Group B’s two days land on Saturday and Sunday nights, which makes them the only pair that does not cost a working morning on either side. Broadcasts run on the official PUBG Mobile Esports YouTube channel and on the Esports World Cup YouTube and Twitch channels.

The Survival Stage follows on 11 and 12 August, and the Grand Finals close the event from 14 to 16 August, with the Smash Rule active on the final day and the match-point threshold set once the twelfth match of the finals is complete.
