Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls Open Beta Set for July 24-26 With Offline Modes

The Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls open beta runs for 72 hours from 24 to 26 July across PlayStation 5, Steam and the Epic Games Store, and it reaches well beyond the online matches players tried in last year’s closed tests. Arc System Works is opening up local Versus play, a full Training Mode and the first three chapters of the story campaign ahead of the 4v4 tag fighter’s 6 August launch.
Access is deliberately frictionless: no registration is required, and no PlayStation Plus subscription either.
How to Get In
There is no sign-up step. Players simply download the open beta from their platform store and start playing, with pre-downloads going live two hours before the servers open so everyone is ready the moment it begins. A PlayStation Plus subscription is not needed, though all players do need an internet connection and an Account for PlayStation to get in, on both PS5 and PC.
15 Fighters and Six Stages
Fifteen of the game’s 20 launch characters are playable during the beta, among them Wolverine, Spider-Man, Doctor Doom, Magneto, Storm, Captain America and Iron Man, alongside Blade, who becomes playable for the very first time. The six stages on offer are each drawn from a landmark Marvel location: Marvel’s New York (Day), Savage Land, X-Mansion, Knowhere, Wakanda and Marvel’s New York (Night).

Every Mode in the Beta
The point of this test is breadth. Where the closed betas were an online-only affair, the open beta hands players most of the shipping feature set:
- Casual Match, for quick games against opponents of similar skill.
- Ranked Match, for climbing the competitive ladder.
- Versus Mode, offline, against friends on the same system or against the CPU.
- Open Lobby, the hub between battles, built from miniature versions of the game’s stages, with 16 avatars each in four colour variations, free chat, preset messages, stamps and emotes, plus arcade cabinets scattered around to challenge other players.
- Start Up Battle, an interactive tutorial covering the fundamentals of 4v4 combat and team systems, ending in a trial match.
- Training Mode, with combo practice, mechanics breakdowns and customisable training scenarios and dummy settings.
- Episode Mode, available for the first time.

Episode Mode Opens Up Early
The headline addition is Episode Mode, which lets players work through the first three chapters of the Amazing Guardians storyline as Spider-Man begins assembling his team to confront a mysterious threat descending on Earth. It is told through illustrated motion-comic sequences that hand off into the fights themselves, and it is the first time anyone outside the studio has seen the campaign running.
Full Launch Localisation on Show
The beta also reflects the localisation players get at launch. Localised voice-over and text will be available in United States English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Latin American Spanish, Japanese, Korean and Simplified Chinese (with Mandarin voice-over), while text-only support covers United Kingdom English, Arabic, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Thai and Traditional Chinese.
Anyone returning from last year’s closed betas should find the game has moved on, with Arc System Works saying it has refined gameplay, improved mechanics and made numerous adjustments across the experience based on community feedback. Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is due out for PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store on 6 August.
