007 First Light Switch 2 Release Date Leaks as September 16 via Amazon Japan Listing

The Nintendo Switch 2 version of 007 First Light appears to be arriving on 16 September, according to an Amazon Japan listing spotted by users on the GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit. IO Interactive has not officially confirmed the date, though the listing remained online with the date unchanged at the time of the reports.

A mid-September window would also line up with what the studio has already said publicly.

What the Listing Shows

Amazon Japan lists the Switch 2 version of First Light for 16 September, and there is no obvious reason for the date to be wrong, though it is a retailer listing rather than a publisher announcement. IOI’s recent comments pointed to players getting the game on Switch 2 sometime in the summer, which a mid-September release sits close to. Given the timing, a first proper look at the port is likely in August or thereabouts, since the studio has not yet shown First Light running on Switch 2 at all.

If accurate, the date lands in a crowded stretch. It would put the Switch 2 version a day after Marvel’s Wolverine on PlayStation 5, a few days before LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight on Switch 2, and 12 days after Onimusha: Way of the Sword.

The Performance Question

The Switch 2 version missed the game’s May multiplatform launch, and as with other cutting-edge triple-A titles on Nintendo hardware, there are open questions about performance and presentation. The studio’s senior licensing producer Theuns Smit said last month the team is “seeing really good progress on the optimisation side of things”, without getting into specifics.

“We want to make sure that we give it its time in optimisation and performance, [so] that it reaches the quality that not only we desire, but that we feel our players deserve,” Smit said at the time, which is the clearest explanation available for why the port trailed the other platforms by four months.

How the Game Has Performed

007 First Light has done well for IO Interactive since release, selling 2.7 million copies in its first week. That figure emerged in early June, with studio director Hakan Abrak saying at the time it was even “closer to 3 million copies sold”. The game also just received its first major patch across PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, bringing bug fixes alongside new TacSim missions and other unlockable rewards. With Amazon Japan already live with a date, an official confirmation from IOI is unlikely to be far behind.
