It’s end of days. Again.

Armageddon not once, but twice, yet humanity still survives. Sort of.

Choose your teenage protagonist grab your trusty baseball bat and you’re on your way, sent in to the ‘Fallow’ to assist the ‘Elders’ in an isometric 3D platformer to save the world.

In BandaiNamco’s RAD there’s many a throwback to the glory days of the 80s / early 90s – fused with a bit of Scifi and a lot of combat against mutants.

RAD

But where RAD switches things up is that the game expects you to die. But die one too many times (and you will) and it’s Game Over.

The procedurally changing multi-tiered Levels offer not only a myriad of mutants and monsters – there are hidden caverns and vast areas to explore.

I do recommend exploring as much as possible before completing the goal in the Levels, and try and pick up as many power ups and items as you can to keep your longevity going.

RAD

The air is toxic – but thanks to a mutagen you can breathe it. But, thanks to your human frailty it will begin to eat away at your life span. So, the clock is always ticking…

Infused with environmental regenerative powers which will eventually turn you into something… ummm… less human, anywhere you go you make a difference in the environment, changing it, bringing back fauna and life making the particular area more safe.

RAD

RAD is a unique combination of genres. A platformer, a hack n slash with puzzle elements thrown in aswell. It’s a game that sure does frustrate at times, but has a high playability and even replayability value.

The cell shaded animation is ‘totally gnarly’ the only downside I have with RAD is there is not always enough time to fully engage in a Level.

Still, toxic fun with neon clad engaging gameplay that compels you to clear areas, forge ahead, no matter how many times you die.
