Shane the Gamer was invited to an early morning news briefing where we knew from past experiences, something big was about to be announced.

Sure enough (and we suspected so), the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+ were revealed to the small gathering of select media.

Both smartphones promising to redefine the possibilities of large screen smartphones through Samsung’s 5.7-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED displays.

Providing an immersive multimedia experience, the Galaxy S6 edge+ features innovative dual edge display with further enhanced edge UX. The newly designed Galaxy Note 5 provides an unmatched set of productivity tools such as Microsoft Office 360, SideSync 4.0, along with refined S Pen capabilities.

“At Samsung, we strive to push the boundaries of what’s next in the mobile industry by constantly listening to our consumers,” said JK Shin, CEO and President of IT & Mobile Division, Samsung Electronics. “With the launch of the Galaxy S6 edge+ and Note 5, we reassure our commitment to continuing bold, fearless innovation for our consumers.”

“Samsung has led innovation in larger screen devices since the launch of our very first Galaxy Note, and our second half 2015 flagship handsets continue to give us an edge over the competition. I’m excited to confirm that both Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6Edge+ will be available in New Zealand later this month. These devices offer Kiwis the best in premium mobile phone design, and the most advanced features for productivity and functionality,” said Stefan Lecchi, Head of Commercial, Samsung New Zealand.

Galaxy S6 edge+ Features Immersive Dual edge Display

Samsung continues to drive and enlarge its design heritage with the introduction of the Galaxy S6 edge+.

“Our stunning curved screen design, first unveiled on the Galaxy S6 Edge earlier this year, was well praised both in New Zealand and globally for its beauty and uniqueness. Pairing the Edge design with a larger, incredibly vivid, 5.7 inch screen will provide users with an unmatched experience for media consumption and entertainment,” said Lecchi.

The Galaxy S6 edge+ features ‘Apps edge’ for easy access to favourite apps and enhanced ‘People edge’ for easy communications with their favourite contacts. People edge allows users to connect their close contacts by sending hand-written memos, emoticons and poking, in addition to call, message and email.

In addition, the S Pen includes updated Smart Select features for easier image clipping and instant memo even when the screen is off.

“With its refined, curved design and enhanced S Pen, the Galaxy Note 5 is our most elegant and complete Note to date. The Galaxy Note 5 will offer professionals and mobile power-users best in class functionality for creativity and productivity,” said Lecchi.

Powerful Core Galaxy Features

Both the Galaxy S6 edge+ and Note 5 feature unprecedented multimedia capabilities through Samsung’s industry-leading 5.7-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display for deeper screen contrast and detail. They also offer improved video capabilities, including Steady Video, which provides Video Digital Image Stabilisation functionality for both front and rear camera, and Video Collage Mode, which allows users to record and edit short videos easily in various frames and effects.

The Galaxy S6 edge+ and Note 5 also feature Live Broadcast, which live streams video straight from the user’s camera to any individual or group of contacts or even to public through YouTube Live, allowing users to share moments instantly.

All devices feature Ultra High Quality Audio (UHQ) for immersive multimedia experiences, converting normal quality audio such as MP3 and CD to Ultra High Quality through sound upscaling technology. In addition, a dedicated audio clock minimises sound distortion and noise, so users can enjoy clearer sound from their mobile device. In addition, UHQ Audio features can be played over Bluetooth through Samsung’s next generation of wireless audio accessories, such as Level On Wireless Pro.

In order to enhance operability on the Galaxy S6 edge+ and Note 5, both devices feature Samsung’s fast wired and wireless charging technology and embedded wireless charging technology compatible with virtually any wireless pad available in the market today. Both devices can fully charge through wired fast charging in approximately 90 minutes, and fully charge through Samsung’s newest wireless charger in approximately 120 minutes.
